A simple guide

Near & Known does not currently run its own optional advertising or analytics trackers. Instagram embeds are optional and do not load until you choose “Load Instagram” on a place page.

Remembering your lovely finds

When you tap a heart, we save the selected place in local storage in your browser. This lets your saved collection survive a page refresh or return visit. It is kept on that device and is not sent to us as a favourites profile.

Managing saved information

Use the heart buttons to remove individual places, or clear this website’s data in your browser to remove the whole collection. If browser storage is unavailable, saving may not work.

Third-party services

Forms submit to Formspree. Our fonts are served from this website. Choosing “Load Instagram” connects to Meta and may allow Meta to use cookies and process information about your visit under its own policies. This choice applies only to that page visit; it is not saved for future visits. Reloading or leaving the page removes the embed from our page, although any cookies already set must be managed in your browser. You can also open the Instagram profile directly. Tripadvisor, venue and map links take you to those providers’ websites. The guide does not load Tripadvisor review widgets. The Devon boundary is served by this website. Interactive maps load street-map tiles from OpenFreeMap when a map comes into view; your browser sends technical information such as your IP address and referring site to that provider. Your chosen town, radius and dropped pin are kept only in the current page state. Street map and directions links open the named map provider.
