A PLACE WORTH KNOWING
Meet the hands behind the pots
Sarah Jane Lander’s working pottery and gallery, full of colourful stoneware intended to earn its place in everyday life.
Calf Street Pottery is a working studio with a shop attached, which makes browsing here part of a much larger story. Sarah Jane Lander throws domestic stoneware in Hartland, decorating her pieces with slips and colour. The shelves bring together bowls, mugs, jugs and other useful objects, while the work itself continues nearby. Her designs have drawn on things as close to home as chive paintings and a much-loved broken mug, giving the pottery a personal thread. This is somewhere to look closely at a brushstroke, compare the feel of a handle and choose a piece that will become part of the everyday.
