A PLACE WORTH KNOWING
A little history with your lunch
A flower-framed Devon longhouse in the centre of Abbotskerswell, with an old stone porch, low beams and a garden made for an unhurried lunch.
Court Farm Inn gives you a reason to pause in Abbotskerswell. The former farmhouse still has the proportions and textures of an old Devon home: uneven stonework outside, wooden beams overhead and rooms that invite you to settle in. Before going through the arched porch, look up for the inscription recording James Tuckett’s rebuilding of the house in 1721. Inside, two bars make space for a drink or a meal, while the garden brings picnic tables, parasols and flowers into the picture. The kitchen serves familiar pub dishes alongside changing specials; a homemade pie, fish and chips or the Thai green curry offer different directions for lunch. Come back on a Sunday if a roast is more your sort of plan. This is an easy place to build a gentle village afternoon around: a short wander, a table booked ahead and enough time to enjoy both.
