Folk art and finds with a curious streak

Ashburton, Devon

Your next little discovery, in a little more detail.

A PLACE WORTH KNOWING

For a little art and a lot of curiosity.

Field System brings a curious, creative energy to West Street. Part shop, part gallery and part print workshop, it is a place for folk-inspired art and objects with a story to tell. Go for a browse, an exhibition or simply the chance to come across something you would never have thought to search for.

Founders Milly Brown and Mark Jessett draw on a shared interest in folklore, art and the landscape around them. Their own clothing and home accessories are printed by hand on site, alongside a changing selection from other makers. The gallery programme adds exhibitions, talks and creative gatherings, giving you another reason to return when you are next in town.

The lovely little details

  • Shop, gallery and print workshop at 13 West Street.
  • Founded by Milly Brown and Mark Jessett.

SOMETHING TO LOOK OUT FOR

Take home a little Dartmoor folklore

Look for Ethan Pennell’s illustrated Dartmoor Folklore Map, packed with local legends, witches, pixies and strange places. Field System lists a folded version and a flat edition for framing; the newer map even includes the gallery.
