A PLACE WORTH KNOWING
Palms, terraces and a view across the estuary
A subtropical clifftop garden above Salcombe, with sheltered paths, colourful planting and beautiful views.
A garden day with a distinctly coastal setting. Overbeck’s sits above the estuary at Sharpitor, where sheltered terraces make room for palms, unusual plants and generous views of the water. The planting is part of the pleasure, but so is the way each turn opens up a different outlook.
Give yourself time to wander rather than treating it as a quick viewpoint. The Statue Garden brings colour and sculpture together; elsewhere the paths feel leafy and enclosed before the coast appears again. A garden visit can also sit alongside a separate walk around the surrounding headland.
This is a seasonal garden, and the house is currently closed for conservation work. Check the National Trust calendar for your exact date and ask about the most suitable route if steps or steep ground are difficult.
