A PLACE WORTH KNOWING

Ice cream, chocolate and a peek behind the scenes

Follow Island Street to Salcombe Dairy’s ice cream shop and nearby chocolate factory for a sweet stop with a making story.

Salcombe Dairy makes a pleasing little detour along Island Street because there are two sides to the visit. At the ice cream shop, you can choose a scoop and take a look through the window into production; a few metres away, the chocolate factory adds shelves of treats and a closer view of the chocolate-making process. The dairy has made ice cream for more than forty years, using local milk and double cream, while its bean-to-bar chocolate gives you something to take home after the ice cream has disappeared. That combination makes this more interesting than a simple souvenir shop. Keep the visit casual, or look into the separately advertised Salchemist experience for a more involved tasting and making session. Dates need checking directly: the public event listing did not show bookable sessions when reviewed.
