Topsham Quay Antiques Centre is the sort of stop that rewards leaving the afternoon loosely planned. Around 65 dealers fill three floors of a riverside warehouse, bringing together furniture, jewellery, glass, textiles and unexpected small finds. You might arrive looking for a lamp and end up studying an old map, a painted plate or a piece of kitchenalia. The building has its own history: constructed as a flour store in 1947, it later stored lager before becoming an antiques centre in 1992. That makes it a particularly fitting place to browse objects with earlier lives. Give yourself time to explore, then step back onto the quay for the estuary setting that makes Topsham such an appealing town to linger in.
